Barbers and Cosmetologists play have a very big role in society. They are responsible for making people look their best. The only requirement necessary to become a barber, cosmetologist, or other personal appearance worker is to be licensed. The requirements for being licensed are different in each state. Some states require that a certificate be given from a school of barbering and cosmetology.

Job Description

Barbers provide a number of services. They cut, trim, shampoo and style hair. Sometimes they fit hairpieces apply hair color and highlights. They suggest hair styles to their customers or just do what is asked. The job requires a steady hand and a keen sense of style.

Cosmetologists, also known as hairdressers or hairstylists, also provide a wide variety of services. They wash, cut, color, and style hair. In addition to these basic tasks, a cosmetologist also gives their customers advice on what to do with their hair.

Some cosmetologists go through extra training and offer manicures, pedicures, and even scalp, and facial treatments. This helps to give you an extra edge over the competition.
